PARU - Retail Store

I visited Paru Tea and honestly wasn’t very impressed. The store was nice, but I felt like everything was overpriced. I tried the ceremonial matcha, but it tasted very similar to the ceremonial matcha I make at home. I also sampled two other teas, and they were just okay. Overall, it wasn’t a bad experience, but for the price, I expected something more special.

Workers are always so nice & they always have samples out. Very knowledgeable about their teas and the space is very nice and clean! I love their matcha powder for my lattes, it’s such good quality for a good price and I get a lot of drinks out of it! I’ve tried plenty of other matcha powders but this is the best matcha powder. Many of my friends & family love when I make them my matcha lattes bc of path’s quality & i can’t recommend their powder + other teas enough!!!

I stopped into PARU while in San Diego for a wedding and was pleasantly surprised by both the high quality teas but also the great service in the retail store. They carry a very well curated selection of Asian teas. I am a big fan of full bodied and earthy teas so I stuck with the oolong and pu'erh options. Highly recommend stopping by!

It’s so hard to find a good matcha! Paru has it! The matcha is just so delicious and they have a lot of other loose leaf teas, I want to try the earl grey. They even offered me a sample of the matcha before purchase. It is on the pricey side but I’ve found then any quality matcha tends to be a bit expensive.

PARU Tea Bar in La Jolla is an absolute gem for matcha lovers! From the moment you step into this cozy and contemporary space, you’re greeted with a serene atmosphere and friendly staff who are passionate about tea. Their matcha, milled in-house, is simply exceptional. I tried the Matcha & Oat Milk Latte, and it was perfectly balanced—not too bitter, not too sweet. The attention to detail, from hand-whisking the matcha to the use of high-quality ingredients like oat milk, really sets PARU apart. The shop offers a variety of teas, including unique blends and single-origin options, all sourced from family-owned gardens in Asia. It’s a wonderful spot for both seasoned tea drinkers and those new to the world of tea. Just be aware that it’s more of a grab-and-go place, so seating is limited. Highly recommend for anyone looking to experience top-notch matcha in San Diego!
